Top Oregon Fencers Sponsored By Leon Paul E-mail

Leon Paul, an internationally recognized fencing equipment manufacturer, recently announced the sponsorship of the U.S. Women's Sabre Team.  Three of the four team members are from Oregon Fencing Alliance (OFA), including Mariel Zagunis, Becca Ward, and Caitlin Thompson (the fourth member is Sada Jacobson from Georgia).  The team's coach is Ed Korfanty, also of OFA.  The Women's Sabre Team are the current World Champions, following their first place finish in Leipzig, Germany.  More information on the World Championship results are provided in this article from USA Today.

The press release also notes Leon Paul's ongoing sponsorship of Becca Ward.  Becca was the 2005 Junior World Cup Champion in Sabre, and recently placed first in both the Junior and Division I Women's Sabre events at the North American Cup (NAC) in Houston, Texas.  She also placed first in the Pittsburgh NAC, and is the 2005 Summer National Champion in Division I and Junior Women's Sabre.

Leon Paul also announces the sponsorship of Lacey Burt.  Lacey fences at Northwest Fencing Center (NWFC), and her coach is Michael Marx.  Lacey recently placed first in Division I Women's Epee at the NAC in Houston, Texas.

Leon Paul USA started by sponsoring Rebecca Ward over a year ago when at just 14, we knew she showed huge potential. Over this year she has surpassed all expectations becoming one of the youngest ever Fencing World Champions.

Lacey 

We have also agreed to the sponsorship of Lacey Burt, a top epeeist who recently won the women’s Div 1 epee in Houston. She is 20 years old and has been fencing for 4 years. She fences at the North West Fencing Center and her coach is Michael Marx. She also does some coaching, armory and referring.
